Maybe a break in the heat.

I need to be testing recipes for the wedding. I haven’t done any testing since the last recipe I posted which was, “oh, like a million years ago.”:http://www.metacookbook.com/archives/244-Cherry-Almond-Butter-Cookies.html

I also have about a bazillion pounds of zucchini in my fridge. Basically, I made the mistake of buying zucchini at a market days before my CSA showed up with mostly zucchini in it. I think, given all the zucchini, I want to make a few loves of zucchini bread.

However, like much of the country, we’re in the midst of an impressive heat wave. The thought of turning on the oven makes me die a little on the inside. Where I keep all my water.

All of that said, we seem to have a break in the heat today.… Continue reading →

The next few days

I’ve been contemplating that monstrous list to the right. That one that tells you what we’ve cooked so far. Cooked, but haven’t posted. Something must be done there.

So, over the next few days, I’m going to crank out some of that list. It’s not going to be what’s been standard to this point. To be frank, I cannot remember what was hard and what was easy and what was weird and so on of that list. Thus, instead, I’m just going to post a few photos, and give you our basic impression of the recipe’s flavor.

Interspersed with that, I’m planning to update the “About page”:http://metacookbook.com/permalink/about.html and I will include other recipes that are ours, or “misc recipes”:http://metacookbook.com/archives/264-Help-me-out,-please.html or what have you. I may also update “The Rules,”:http://metacookbook.com/permalink/rules.html… Continue reading →

Market Day – Any Questions?

My friend “Jen”:http://antijenicdrift.blogspot.com/ has requested that I do a once a week series, on Mondays, on what “the market”:http://pilsencommunitymarket.org/ was like the prior day. I had been disinclined to do so, as I occasionally feel that it would bore the snot out of anyone reading, but today I changed my mind. At least for today.

The change was brought about, in part, while discussing the market with Bill’s employee Dan. We were discussing the fact that I would like to have data on what sort of items my patrons would like to see at the market (as well as what potential patrons would like to see!).

At the market, I would introduce a survey to find out. Indeed, I am working on one this week. Here on the blog, I write about it.… Continue reading →

Help me out, please?

A little while ago, I realized I had one category called “recipes” and was putting any post that resembled a recipe in that category. However, I felt that category was bulking up and there were a lot of recipes that were not the “main dish” of this blog in there. So I broke it up into “Challenge Recipes” (aka – the main dish), “Wedding Recipes” (aka – the smallest category) and “Our Recipes” (aka – HOLY CRAP I’M LEARNING TO COOK).

However, what do I do with a recipe someone gave me that is in none of those categories? It’s not in the “Challenge Recipes” category because it’s a recent gift (so it wasn’t part of the challenge stash). I’m not serving it at my wedding.… Continue reading →

Two new recipe categories

Here at MetaCookbook, like many places around the web, we both tag our entries & put them into overarching categories. Today I made up two new categories, and changed the name of a third.

First, the name change. “Recipes” is now “Challenge Recipes”. As we said in the “About”:http://metacookbook.com/permalink/about.html this blog came about because we are challenging ourselves to use our cookbooks. Most recipes we post/discuss will end up here.

Occasionally, I get brave and make something all on my own. Bill does this rather more often than I do, but posts rather less often. If one of us makes & posts something from our own heads, “like my asparagus-mushroom risotto,”:http://metacookbook.com/archives/241-Tashas-attempt-at-Asparagus-Risotto.html we’ll park it here. There are some of these recipes currently residing in “Challenge Recipes” at the time of this writing, but I expect to have them moved by the end of the weekend.… Continue reading →
