    • Michigan Beer Blog Two folks in Michigan blog about their state’s AMAZING beer and food they make with it. I envy this beer.

    • Northwest Edible Life Quite possibly my favorite blog. Full of common sense, understanding, gardening, food and generally good stuff.
    • We Need Your Help and/or Pies My very good friend Jessie’s blog. It’s occasionally about TV, often about her hysterical father, & an all-around good read. Infrequently updated.
    • When I Grow Up Coach Blog Michelle, the When I Grow Up Coach, maintains a blog. Mostly about finding your new career or similar, but also about her “boob cancer” and other assorted things in her life.
  • Food

    • 52 Meals A Chicago based woman decided she doesn’t host enough. So she committed to hosting company once a week, and posting about it and what they ate.
    • Afroculinaria A Jewish man learning about his ancestors, slaves and slave-holders, by touring and cooking and working in the Southeast US. Amazingly educational about where some of our food traditions come from.
    • Aunt Clara's Kitchen I mostly read this for the photos and the interesting Dominican stories “Aunt” Clara & “Aunt” Ilana post. Good looking recipes too, though.
    • Food Through the Pages Combines two things I love: fiction and food. It’s got some fun ideas and some really good looking recipes.
    • NPR's "The Salt" Food blogging from NPR. Brings a lot of issues relating to food to my attention. Also, “Sandwich Mondays” are loads of fun.
    • One Hundred Meals My friends Ellen and Grant have embarked on a journey to have 100 meals with various people “in the food system”. Bill and I were accidentally the first meal.
    • Smitten Kitchen Recipes that make me drool. Clean-looking blog. A cookbook I’d buy, if I knew if I was buying cookbooks. Gorgeous photography.
    • The Bitten Word Zach & Clay are a D.C. couple who wanted to put their cooking magazine subscriptions to use. Sound familiar? Posts are usually pretty short, but rather informative about any given recipe.
  • Science

    • Anthropology in Practice Showing us how anthropology applies in real life. Infrequent posting, but always fascinating.
    • Botanist in the Kitchen Recipes and science? Oh, my! A truly fascinating look at what we know about various edible plants. With ways to eat them. Win-win.
    • Context and Variation An anthropologist looking at human behavior, often “ladybusiness”, evolution and other assorted awesomness.
    • Nothing In Biology Makes Sense Looking at biology and life through the lens of evolution, with a solid amount of ecology in there. My former field, so this allows a lot of personal geeking out.
    • Retraction Watch A blog about retractions in scientific publishing. Weirdly interesting, though most of it is pretty complicated. Keeping science publishing transparent. Worth skimming, at least, daily.
    • The Urban Scientist I have a soft spot for urban ecology. DNLee does it well. She’s also worked in Tanzania. She has a lot to say about Hip-Hop education, being a minority in science, and just being awesome.
