I Made a Quiche

Just like I said I might, I made a quiche. Almost the exact same one from before my exam, only I had a useful store-bought pie crust and I also added white pepper and I didn’t measure my filling ingredients.

A baked pie crust dotted with soft cheese, caramelized onions, and chopped sun-dried tomatoes.

It was tasty. And I managed an even more custard-y filling by using my immersion blender’s whisk attachment. I go ages never using that thing, and now it’s a big part of my life. Wild.

Maybe I’ll Make a Quiche.

I keep having goals and not managing them. So I thought maybe I’d set a tiny goal & share with you a song that kicks my ass. Unfortunately, there’s no video for it, so here’s one from the same album I also love.

This actually achieves a couple goals. Now I have written something on this here blog again. Now I have shared some wonderful music and video that I enjoy.

That would be sufficient, but in logging in to do this, I saw that there is a way to salvage a quiche when everything is going to hell. And, frankly, things are not currently going to hell, but I am struggling to meet my goals. So maybe a quiche can solve that too. How to Salvage a Quiche When Everything is Going to Hell

All I wanted was quiche for my Certified Cicerone exam day breakfast.

I love quiche, but like my good friend Marielle, I usually default to frittata. In fact, a draft post on this very blog that I haven’t been able to make come together is about frittata.

But, in truth, while I make frittata regularly, quiche is the “egg pie” I actually want to be eating. Why? Because it’s custardy! It’s delicious! It HAS CRUST! So, sometimes even when I’m not up to making pie crust (and, trust me, my skills are mediocre currently1), I make quiche. By buying pie crust.

Coffee Beer. French Toast. Quiche. Wins.

Spent grain might be magic, guys.

I know. I know. I’m SUPPOSED to be talking about homebrew. Since, you know, that was the basis of the giveaway. And, frankly, the homebrew was delicious. Our coffee amber was well-received (and I’m told it’s been entered in its first contest!), though the two bombers we shared were fascinatingly different. Both quite tasty, but one was more deeply akin to coffee than the other. We speculated that the coffee wasn’t properly mixed in at bottling time, but we’ll never know for sure.

On top of that, we tried a couple of bottles of homebrew from my friends Jason and Matt. Jason’s “Nightmare Stout” was delicious and deep. Matt’s “Damn Fine Cup of Coffee” was exceptional. It hit all the right notes of coffee and stout, without being huge and heavy.… Continue reading →

Preparing to Host Brunch

Well, it’s almost time for people to show up for my second, ever, homebrew and home-cooking event.

Ha. “Event” makes it sound so much bigger than it is. What I’ve done is invite a handful of people over for brunch. But it feels like an “event” because at least one person is someone I’ve never met before. Which means a lot more cleaning than if it were just Rob or Nicky or Jason showing up.

Luckily, the beverage plan is easy. I’ll ask Bill to pick up some coffee beans and make some coffee for folks who are arriving. Then, I have the coffee beer I made with Nancy, a coffee beer Jason (Beer Husband) made, and a coffee beer Matt made.
