Some Drink Ideas for Saturday

Here in the States, Independence Day is right around the corner. And I’ve been thinking of beverages to consume for it.

While I have a couple I’ll post tomorrow or Friday (trying to get photos now), I realized I can share with you a couple older posts I had that might spark your interest.

Tomato soda in a glass. The glass would rather have beer in it.

Tomato Soda.
Non-alcoholic.

Tip: Use only extremely carbonated soda water for this. Either make your own with something like this soda maker or use Q Club. Less carbonated makes it a less yummy drink, though still good.

Bill’s Bitter.
Non-alcoholic.

A wonderfully complex drink that’s refreshing and fun and incredibly easy to make. At this point, it’s a summer staple in our home, as well as in the home of several of our friends.… Continue reading →

Juneteenth

Note: Starting tomorrow, our nephew is visiting for the next 10 days, so this blog will be silent for his visit.

Today is Juneteenth. The celebration of the end of America’s era of slavery, as on 19 June 1865, slaves in Texas, the last remaining enslaved people, were publicly declared legally free. This year is the 150th anniversary of this momentous and fabulous event.

If you grew up in a way or place where the existence of this holiday is news to you, as I did, please go read about it. The Wikipedia article linked above is interesting and informational, and the holiday is important. Especially in light of what has and has not changed in 150 years.

Happy Birthday to Me! Merry Christmas to You! Happy New Year to Us All!

It’s my birthday! It’s Christmastime! The New Year is just around the corner!

I’ll be taking a blogging break until 6 January 2015. Well, a posting break. I’m doing this, in part, so I can get some posts in the queue. Also to spend some of this time with Bill, who has off five days (starting today), and the puppies. Because they are awesome.

I love you all. Thanks again. I’ll be back with some new posts and likely some comments on my birthday gifts. And if you want to see the entirety of my birthday “loot”, look below.

Science, Beer, Food, and Blathering Gift Suggestions

Well, after blogging for four and a half years, I guess I’ve started to get the hang of things. Like, in December, a blogger should consider having a “gift guide” or something. Or a good cookie recipe. Or both.

Well, I have several cookie recipes, but nothing new for you, so I guess we’ll have to settle on a gift ideas. I tried to come up with a few things that I have liked, used, or given as potential gifts from each “section” of the blog (food, beer, science, blather).

Mostly, I think these things are neat, fun, or wonderful and I hope to help you find something spectacular for someone awesome in your life. Or, if not find, give you some a springboard for other ideas.… Continue reading →

Happy Holidays

Well, Hanukkah is over. We celebrated for the first time this year, and it was loads of fun. Also made me realize how much I like candle light. We’ll have to light more candles this year. And celebrate again next year. Latkes, both potato and cheese, are amazing.

Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year’s Day are all coming up. Plus more. I intend to celebrate lots. So, I’ll see you guys in the new year with posts about lions, how to be a jackass at beer academy, and probably some stuff about food.

Best wishes for the rest of the year. And hopefully all of us have an amazing 2013.… Continue reading →
