An Update for the New Year

Happy New Year! I snuck a link post in yesterday without really acknowledging that the year-end hiatus was over. This was unintentional, I assure you. I merely had started writing it before the hiatus was over and didn’t think about it until after the post went up.

That was a big part of the plan for the hiatus, as you may recall. Writing, writing, writing. The plan was to build a buffer. And, as you can see, I had a tiny one going. I’m not writing this post the day it goes up. But I’m writing this post the day before, so it’s not as big as I’d aimed for.

Why is that?

Well, I started this post at 6:23 on Saturday night, so that’s a good start on getting a buffer going. However, I started it from the bar of my new employer. That’s right, I’m employed again. It was sudden and unexpected, and it’s good because I still am not making much money from the blog. (I’ll get to amounts a little further down.)

The new job is also rough, though, because it is 98% new work to me and it’s incredibly physical. It’s partially retail, which I can do and have been doing off and on since I was about twelve, and partially serving beers and food and such which (as you can guess), I have not been doing as long. In fact, at this point, I’ve been doing it about two weeks. Part-time.

It’s a good gig, and can often use my fancy Cicerone® certification (Saturday I made up themed mixed six packs!), but it’s much more exhausting than any other work I’ve done before. I’m on my feet, and typically moving, the entirety of my shift, while learning a TON of new things and trying not to spill soup on people.

Adventures.

Add in the holidays and then being hit so hard by allergies on the 31st I thought it was a massive cold and have been sleeping a lot when I’m not working, it adds up to minimal writing and maximal recuperating from SOMETHING.

But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been thinking and planning. And one of my thoughts was that I should revisit last year’s post on money. Because, frankly, I think it’s interesting, although it’s a little hard to talk about.

That’ll be Friday’s post, because I’ve been thinking on it a long time. It’s, in fact, partially written. Buffer for the win?
