Roald Dahl’s Revolting Recipes by Josie Fison, Felicity Dahl & Quentin Blake

Roald Dahl’s Revolting Recipes by Josie Fison, Felicity Dahl and Quentin Blake.

We found this book in Powell’s bookstore. Oddly, in the technical books building. I snapped it up and wouldn’t let it go, except to be scanned so we could pay for it.

Most of this, I’ll admit, was due to my affection for Dahl’s stories as a kid. I don’t think I actually read most of them, but the ones I did read, I loved. Every single one. But especially The Witches.

The rest of it, though? The rest of it was that Bill and I have two biological nephews, with two biological nieces on the way. We also have a few honorary nephews1. Children who will definitely be reading Dahl, because Bill and I will shower them with his (children’s) books. And I had dreams of cooking with these kids after they’ve read about stink bug eggs and scrambled dregs and candy apple trees. It’s a long way away, but it’s going to be epic.

So you won’t be seeing recipes out of here very soon, I imagine. I’m saving it for a very special occasion. Cooking with some very special kids.

Number of recipes in this book: 31 (Estimated)

fn1. Still no honorary nieces. It’s weird. But the almost-nieces are welcome too. Pretty much any kid who knows Dahl is welcome.

  1. James and the Giant Peach *never* gets the love it deserves. That is the sort of stuff that made me into a reader.

    • You clearly do not own this cookbook. My estimate is that, if one book rules the roost here, it’s James and the Giant Peach.

I didn’t read it as a kid, only because I never saw it in the library, so while I heard of it, I didn’t realize it was Dahl’s work.
